Since early 2024, the Town of Salisbury has been working actively on securing road access for all-terrain vehicles. Currently, ATVs are only permitted on certain Provincial roads under Highway Use Permits (HUP) that were approved in June of 2025.
The latest submission by the Town to the New Brunswick Government, in early 2025, will not be approved. This confirmation was provided in May of 2025, primarily due to the lack of shoulder on Fredericton Road (Route 112), traffic along that road (as well as speed), and the requirement to cross the overpass over the TransCanada Highway.
The Town has been working in partnership with QuadNB and the local ATV Club on alternatives. At the direction of Town Council on September 8, 2025, the Town will begin working with the local ATV Club on extending the current multi-use trail along private lands East of Fredericton Road. The intent of the extended network would be to connect to Trueman Street, avoiding the need to travel along Fredericton Road.
These undertakings are subject to partnerships with private landowners, funding, and approval from the Province for additional streets to connect to the potential trail extension. These negotiations and discussions, as was the case with approval for previous versions of the By-law, will not happen overnight.
As immediate next steps, the Town will work with the local ATV Club on identifying potential trail locations. The Town will then immediately begin landowner consultations.
