The following represents a summary of decisions from the Special Council Meeting held by Salisbury Town Council on April 7, 2026. These represent highlights, and are not formal Council minutes, which are posted upon approval at a future Regular Council Meeting.
Tuesday evening’s meeting began with the approval of minutes of meetings of Council held on March 9th and 23rd. Approved Consent Agenda items included a letter from the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government detailing what the current Council can and cannot do during the time between the municipal election and the swearing-in of the newly elected Council. Also on the Consent Agenda was a letter from Heritage Canada confirming federal funding of $1,920 for Salisbury’s Canada Day event planned for July 1, 2026, and a February development update from Plan360 that includes building permits for two houses.
Administrative Presentation
Fire Chief Brad MacLeod then joined Council to provide an update on department activity, including word that four new trainees have been brought on in recent months and how Salisbury Fire Rescue had a very busy year in 2025 due to dry ground conditions. (That dry period in 2025 was also the basis of an update from the Government of New Brunswick last week in which the earlier-than-usual start of the annual forest fire season was announced. Recommendations from Closed and Committee Meetings
Council approved agreements with TruSun for solar panel installations at both Town Hall and at the new Fire Hall, and also adopted the Town’s new Violence and Harassment Policy.
Reports from Administration
Tender awards were approved for:
- River Road storm sewer and sidewalk extension (SALS2026-01, River Road, to Carson Development Ltd. in the amount of $517,150, excluding HST)
- Annual street patching program (RFQ-SALS2026-02 to Brown’s Paving Ltd. for the Annual Street Patching Program in the amount of $61,500.00, excluding HST)
- Asphalt paving on Dundee Drive (RFQ-SALS2026-03 to Brown’s Paving Ltd. for Asphalt Paving of the Dundee Drive, as per Residential Subdivision Agreement No. 3, at the price of $109,040.20, excluding HST)
- Asphalt paving on Eagle Ridge Drive (RFQ-SALS2026-04 to Brown’s Paving Ltd. for Asphalt Paving of Eagle Ridge Drive, as per Residential Subdivision Agreement No. 1, at the price of $107,840.20, excluding HST)
There was also an agreement renewal for The Fox in the Park container-based refreshment stand this year at Highland Park, and a multi-year grant approval to Salisbury Taekwondo for $500 per year for five years to help the organization with equipment and its annual tournaments.
By-laws
Third and final readings were approved for:
- By-Law No. 17-2 (A By-law to Amend By-law No. 17, Town of Salisbury Zoning By-law, which is a text amendment to allow for seasonal vending using shipping containers)
- By-law No. 18 (Respecting the Proceedings of Salisbury Municipal Council and Committee Meetings)
- By-law No. 19 (A Code of Conduct for the Council of Salisbury)
- By-law No. 20 (Seasonal Vending By-law)
Resolution
Council passed a motion to approve the recommended appointments to the Cultural Policy Implementation Committee.
Next Meeting
The next scheduled meeting of Salisbury Town Council will be a Special Meeting on June 8 *, 2026, to swear-in the new Council following the May 11th municipal election. (* Editor’s Note – This is a new date for that Swearing-In public session.)
