The following represents a summary of decisions from the Special Council Meeting held by Salisbury Town Council on Friday, February 27, 2026. These represent highlights, and are not formal Council minutes, which are posted upon approval at a future Regular Council Meeting:
Recommendations from Committees and Private Meetings
- Council ratified a Purchase Agreement to acquire 20.1 acres from current PID 70699103, subject to terms of the Agreement (formal acquisition is subject to approval from the Municipal Capital Borrowing Board);
- Council ratified a subsequent agreement to enter into a Land Exchange Agreement, whereby the Town provides the portion of PID 70699103 being acquired by the Town to the Province of New Brunswick for the purposes of construction of a new Elementary School, in exchange for a portion of Province-owned PID 00816868 (featuring the existing baseball fields, trail, and surrounding land), in addition to a portion of the newly-acquired acreage (approximately 3.8 acres) to be set aside for a future recreation facility;
- Council authorized the application to the New Brunswick Municipal Capital Borrowing Board (MCBB) for authorization to borrow up to $800,000 over a term not to exceed 20 years for the purposes of General Government Services, being the acquisition of land.
These Agreements reflect several previous discussions of Salisbury Town Council that have occurred, as permitted under Sections 68(1)(c), 68(1)(d), and 68(1)(e) of the Local Governance Act, in Closed Session. Given the nature of the Agreement, the Town understands that residents will be eager for additional details on the nature of the land acquisition and land exchange agreement. The Town is continuing ongoing conversations with our partners at the Provincial Government and looks forward to additional public announcements in the near future.

Council will next sit on Monday, March 9, 2026 for its monthly Regular Council Meeting, after which the next edition of Council Highlights will be posted.
