The following represents a summary of decisions from the Regular Council Meeting held by Salisbury Town Council on Monday, February 9, 2026. These represent highlights, and are not formal Council minutes, which are posted upon approval at a future Regular Council Meeting:
Consent Agenda
After adopting the Minutes of Council’s Regular and Committee of the Whole meetings held in January, Council approved a Consent Agenda that included the monthly Planning and Development Report from Plan360 covering December 2025 activity in the Town of Salisbury.
Public Presentation
Alan Pendergast of Alternative Residences Alternatives Inc. presented to Council their intention to open, on April 1st at 46762 Homestead Road, a 10-bed supportive housing facility to help individuals who are homeless and have diagnosed mental health challenges.
Reports from Administration
Council agreed to have Councillor Nathan O’Blenis remain Deputy Mayor for another three months, rather than select a new Deputy Mayor as scheduled, and just wait until after the May 11 municipal election to consider a change to the normally one-year role.
A multi-year grant of $5,000 per year for five years was approved for Salisbury Farmers and Artisans Market. Meantime, Council will revisit in March a grant request for the high school theatre. Also, a request from Salisbury Taekwondo was denied, but the applicant will be encouraged to instead apply for a more appropriate multi-year grant while encouraging eligible Taekwondo students to apply to the Town’s Financial Assistance in Recreation, or FAR, Program.
By-laws
Concerning a Homestead Road rezoning application to allow a shopping cart repair business, Council approved First and Second readings for the necessary amendments to the Municipal Plan and Zoning By-law with the matter still not considered a so-called “done deal,” however, until after the Third and final Reading takes place, which could happen on March 9th.
Meantime, presented to Council earlier in the same meeting were the previously acknowledged petition submissions, in opposition to the rezoning, that were filed with the Clerk’s Office in January.
Closed Session
Council had to enter into a Closed Session for discussion of an item of a financial nature, the content of which is protected under Section 68(1)(c) of the New Brunswick Local Governance Act.
Resolutions
The meeting concluded with a motion to set March 9th as the date for a public hearing for a proposed text amendment to the Zoning By-law that would permit the use of shipping containers as temporary vending facilities.
Next Meeting
Council will next sit on February 23rd at 6:oo PM for its monthly Committee of the Whole meeting. The next Regular Council Meeting will be held on March 9th at 7:00 PM. The next edition of Council Highlights will be posted after that March meeting
