The following represents a summary of decisions from the Special Council Meeting held by Salisbury Town Council on May 8, 2026. These represent highlights, and are not formal Council minutes, which are posted upon approval at a future Regular Council Meeting.
Reports from Administration
- With regards to the Town’s recent land acquisition and land transfer to the Province to be used for a planned new Salisbury Elementary School, Council approved the street name and location, being Becksfield Drive off River Road, in the approved subdivision plan as recommended by the Southeast Planning Review Adjustment Committee (PRAC).
- Council also approved the related Land for Public Purposes (LFPP) in connection with the same purchase and transfer of land earmarked for the new school, with the Province agreeing to provide the LFPP on another site needed by the Town for its trails instead of on the new school site. This involved Council first approving $1 cash-in-lieu of LFPP at the planned school site, and then approving a separate motion to receive LFPP at the other property located in the area of the boardwalk approach to the Wetland Trail.
- Council also approved the securing of interim financing for the school land deal, should it be needed before the Municipal Capital Borrowing Board’s debenture-call, which is expected this Summer or later this Fall.
- A tender award was approved for three different sections of trail work this Spring (SALS2026-08 to JK Fraser & Sons Ltd. in the amount of $871,456, excluding HST), specifically to connect the riverside trail with the Salisbury Baptist Church property through the future school site, connect the Wastewater Treatment Plant to the ATV trail through the Silver Meadows neighbourhood, and provide a detour trail connection for when the Province’s transportation department (NB DTI) replaces the P380 bridge in 2027.
- In a separate motion, Council approved the combined funding agreement with the Regional Development Corporation (RDC) of New Brunswick for the aforementioned trail project and for the storm sewer extension taking place on River Road.
