The motoring public is hereby advised that during a Special Council Meeting of Salisbury Town Council held on June 10, 2025, a motion was passed temporarily affecting traffic regulations on the municipal streets of Parkin Street and Larsen Lane.
From Wednesday, June 11, 2025 to Friday, August 1, 2025, the speed limits on the local roads of Parkin Street and Larsen Lane will be reduced from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour, at the discretion of Salisbury Town Council, in light of public safety concerns. These concerns arise from an increase in traffic on local streets, despite not being an official detour, due to a project being undertaken under the jurisdiction and responsibility of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (NBDTI) nearby these local streets.
Pursuant to Section 142 of the Motor Vehicle Act, Town Council is permitted to lower speeds on certain local roads through a municipal By-law. By resolution amending the Town of Salisbury By-law No. 15, A By-law for the Municipality of Salisbury Respecting Traffic, Town Council has imposed this temporary reduction in speed for the expected duration of the nearby Provincial project. Signage will be installed/updated accordingly, and the RCMP and Provincial Department of Justice and Public Safety have been notified of the temporary change in traffic regulations.
Residents are reminded that any concerns with respect to speeding, including on local streets, should be forwarded to the RCMP. Residents are likewise reminded that the Town will continue to enforce the provisions of the Town’s existing Traffic By-law, including Section 6(a)(iii), which prohibits the parking on streets to prevent the passing of other vehicles.
