Wildfires continue to affect the province, including in the Southeast.
Bonfires in the Town of Salisbury remain prohibited based on the provincial burn ban – this includes all fireworks.
The Town is closing the new trail extensions, including the former Woodland Trail, boardwalk, and connection to Parkin Street. The Town has easements on this privately-owned land to permit our trail. Out of respect for private landowners, the Town asks that residents respect the requests of the province to stay out of the woods.
Highland Park’s Wetland Trail remains open given it is outside of wooded areas.
The Town is refraining from mowing areas when possible in light of such dry conditions – including at parks.
Residents can take their own additional precautions, including (but not limited to): refraining from parking on dry lawns, disposing of cigarette butts responsibly, limiting use of machinery that may ignite and/or cause sparks (ie: mowing lawns, etc.), in addition to following the provincial requirements.
Neighbouring Fire Departments are responding to the Irishtown Fire. Some areas of the Town are served by these Fire Departments. SFR is monitoring requests from the Office of the Fire Marshall and remains available for any calls for service in Salisbury’s coverage areas. Residents are asked to respect the amount of resources being allocated to fires in our region and to refrain from causing unnecessary calls for service, such as bonfires, when these resources are needed elsewhere.
