Streetlights
Municipalities are responsible for requesting and paying for streetlights that are owned and installed by NB Power. In the former Village of Salisbury boundaries (Ward 3), there are over 330 of them. In Wards 1, 2, and 4, there are no streetlights other than occasional dusk-to-dawn lights or streetlights connected to individual homes. With the former Local Service Districts now forming a portion of the Town of Salisbury, the Town is formalizing a process for streetlight requests for the whole Town.
In the meantime, the Town is looking for streetlight requests in specific areas that are safety hazards, high-traffic areas, or key intersections, specifically in the former LSD areas (Wards 1, 2, and 4). In the coming months, the Municipality will evaluate requests received from residents, raised by members of Town Council, and evaluate key areas independently to have a select number of streetlight requests submitted to NB Power over the summer for installation.
In the Fall of 2023, Council will adopt a Streetlight Request Policy for the Town which will govern future requests. Should a request raised by a resident or elected official not meet the current prioritization, it will be kept and considered under the eventual Policy.
