The Village of Salisbury is pleased to announce that Austin Henderson has been appointed as the community’s first Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). He will officially assume the role on Monday, July 4, 2022.
Henderson’s appointment comes after a recruitment process that began in early 2022. In light of the community’s increasing growth and with the ongoing Local Governance Reform transition, Salisbury Village Council created the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to ensure that the Village had administrative oversight, strategic direction, and to ensure that Council priorities are executed efficiently.
“Salisbury Village Council is pleased to have Austin accept this role, having demonstrated a vision for our community that aligns with Council’s priorities” said Mayor Robert Campbell. “Throughout the recruitment process, Austin demonstrated his passion for our region and knowledge on the important role of municipalities, along with the background and experience to assume the role. We are confident that with his leadership, our community will continue to succeed.”
Austin currently works for the City of Moncton as the Manager of Strategic Communications. Prior to joining the City, he led the office of the local Member of Parliament and has experience on a number of political election campaigns. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Brunswick, a post-graduate diploma in Public Relations from the University of Victoria, and has pursued training through the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Program, the Ontario Municipal Leadership Institute, and the International Association of Public Participation, amongst others. In addition to his professional roles, Austin serves in a number of different volunteer capacities in the area.
“I am thrilled to be assuming this role for the community that I was born and raised in, especially during such an exciting period of growth” said Austin Henderson. “I look forward to serving my fellow residents as CAO and joining the strong team at the Village Office, while also working with community members, organizations, and stakeholders in this new capacity. While the new role will be a challenge, I look forward to harnessing the momentum of our community’s growth and ensuring we emerge from the local governance reform process stronger as a municipality”.
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is the administrative head of the municipality and is responsible for the overall administration of the Village of Salisbury.
